The Rector, Fr. Paul, led the morning Eucharist service in Jeffreyston Church, on Sunday, which was the Sunday after Trinity, or the second Sunday of Pentecost.
The readings were Ezekiel 17.vv 22 - 24; Corinthians 5.vv 6 - 10 and 14 - 17. The Gospel reading was Mark 4.vv 26 - 34, where we read of Jesus telling of the parable about a growing seed.
For the text of his sermon, Fr. Paul used words from verse 29 of the Gospel reading "... But when the grain is ripe, at once he puts in the sickle..."
He then gave an interesting talk on the Gospel reading, saying that just like a painting can be simple but very detailed, so can a parable about the kingdom of God showing a gradual but steady progress of growth, just like the growing of a plant. He added that the reading from Ezekiel showed a similar understanding.
When the Sunday School joined, Fr. Paul was proud to show some lovely coloured cardboard cut-outs of boxes of seeds and watering cans, each of which showed a prayer. William then clearly read out the closing prayer, based on the theme of the day.
Rev. Sylvia Temple was the celebrant in the Eucharist service which followed in St. James' Church, Reynalton. The preacher was Fr. Paul, who also led the prayers.
In his sermon, Fr. Paul expanded on the teaching from the Gospel of Mark. He explained about the simple task of a blacksmith which resulted in much detailed work.
The evening service at St. Elidyrs Church, East Williamston, was a celebration for the gift of an organ from an Amroth chapel, also for new hymn books kindly provided by church members.
After Fr. Paul had given the introduction and opening prayer with thanks to God for His goodness, he handed over to Trish Campion and Daphne Gwyther, who introduced various speakers, also a lovely solo from Jean Radcliffe, who also played the organ.
A very good and prayerful time was had. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed refreshments, kindly provided by the ladies of the church.
Reminders were given about the Open Gardens event in East Williamston from 2 - 5 pm on June 21. Admission is just £5, to include tea and garden visits. Meet for this in the Village Hall. Also the Pig Roast planned for July 17 and Sea Sunday Service on July 19, both taking place at Cresswell Quay.
Services for this Sunday are: 9 am - Eucharist, East Williamston; 10.30 am - Eucharist and Sunday School, Jeffreyston; 12 noon - Eucharist, Loveston.
