The Rector, Fr. Paul, led the morning service in Jeffreyston Church on Sunday, the eighth after Trinity. It was a service combined with Baptism and Eucharist. The church was nearly full for the occasion, since we were joined by members of the Carew Wesley Church, as well as holiday visitors and regular worshippers from Jeffreyston Church.
After the opening hymn we were treated to Bible readings from John Brock and Jemma Hicks. The parents and godparents of the baptismal candidates then came out to the front of the church and we witnessed the baptism of both Charley and Paul from Carew Wesley Church. Fr. Paul gave a short talk on the importance of both the baptismal candle and water.
At the end off the service, we were treated to a fine rendering by the Carew Wesley Sunday School choir, followed by the closing prayer from members of the Jeffreyston Sunday School.
Rev. Sylvia Temple was the celebrant and Fr. Paul was the preacher at the Eucharist service which followed in St. James' Church, Reynalton. The readings were 1 Chronicles 28. vv 2-3 and 6-10; Hebrews 12. vv 1-3. The Gospel reading was Luke 10.vv 38-end, which tells of Jesus at the home of Martha and Mary.
For his sermon, Fr. Paul chose as a text, verse nine of the 13th chapter from the Gospel of Matthew, 'Let anyone with ears listen', relating to the parable of the sower. In an interesting sermon, Fr. Paul encouraged us to develop our understanding of spiritual matters and to keep on spreading the message of salvation.
