An annual competition that rewards new young artists and offers a boost to their musical career will be held in Pembrokeshire this Friday.
The ‘Ail Symudiad’ 2026 Memorial Awards will be held at Hermon Hall, on Friday, February 6 at 7pm
This is the fourth awards night to be held in memory of brothers Richard and Wyn Jones, founders of the popular group, Ail Symudiad and their record company, Fflach and also to remember Kevin Davies, who was also a key figure in the development of the Record Company.
Following the success of the competitions over the last three years, and seeing new and exciting talent who have now made a name for themselves across Wales, examples being bands such as Dros Dro, Gelert, and Dewin, and the winner of last year's new individual competition, Danny Sioned.
The organisers are a music development charity ‘Gŵyl Fel 'Na Mai Ltd’ - who aim to bring more young new musicians to the attention of the Welsh audience in 2026, and this year again the competition is open to musicians from all over Wales, bands, groups and individuals.
The winners will receive the Trefigin Challenge Trophy, a monetary award, an opportunity to perform on the stage of Gŵyl Fel 'na Mai festival in May; and an opportunity to perform at the 2026 Eisteddfod y Garreg Las and a recording session by Fflach Gymunedol Ltd.
Previous winners Dros Dro band went on to win the all Wales "Can i Gymru" to clinch a prize pot of £5,000 and to represent Wales at the Celtic nations competition in Ireland, where they became overall winners there also at the "Gŵyl Ban Geltaidd".
Contestants must submit a set of up to 15 minutes of Welsh-medium songs. Songs are required to be original compositions, but one of them is allowed to be a version of a song from a familiar work by another artist.
Contestants will be asked to commit to performing at the Hermon Centre on February 6.
