The Rector, Fr. Paul, led the united parishes' morning Eucharist service in Jeffreyston Church on Sunday, the sixth after Trinity. It was also the day when we commemorated the Apostles Peter and Paul. The readings were Ezekiel 3.vv 22-27; Acts 12.vv 1-11. The Gospel reading was Matthew 16.vv 13-19, where we read of Jesus with His disciples, when Peter declared that he knew who Jesus really was by revealing him as 'the Messiah'. For his sermon, Fr. Paul first discussed the various readings and chose, as a text, verse 18 of the Gospel reding 'And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the powers of Hades shall not prevail against it'. Fr. Paul said that as Peter showed himself as a man of Faith, so we today should follow his example. At the end of the service, Fr. Paul was proud to show the congregation the well done posters made in the Sunday School. He described them as a wonderful job. The posters showed coloured cut- outs of the Apostle Peter, as referred to in the Gospel reading and concerned the theme of the day. Laura then led us in the closing prayer based on this. The Pig Roast at Cresswell Quay is planned for July 18. The Mothers' Union 'Wave of Prayer' will be held on Saturday, July 19, in Jeffeyston Church, between 1.40 and 2 pm, and the Sea Sunday service will be held in Cresswell Quay on July 20. Services for this Sunday, July 6, are: 9 am - Eucharist, East Williamston; 10.30 am - Eucharist and Sunday School, Jeffreyston; 12 noon - Eucharist, Loveston; 6 pm - Evening Eucharist, Jeffreyston.
