The Rector, Fr. Paul, led the morning service in Jeffreyston Church on Sunday, the 12th after Pentecost, which was a combined service of Family Eucharist and Holy Baptism. Parents, Kate and Richard Allen, had brought baby Sally Elizabeth for Baptism. The church was full to capacity with relatives and friends of the happy couple, as well as the usual congregation and holidaymakers from Jeffreyston parishes. The readings we were given were: Isaiah 5.vv 1-7, Hebrews 11.vv 29-chapter 12, verse 2. The Gospel reading was Luke 12.vv 49-56. In his talk, during the Baptismal part of the service, Father Paul stressed the importance of Baptism and demonstrated with a series of Boy Scout rope knots the importance of family binding. He referenced verse 14 from Colossians chapter three, 'above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony', as per the example shown by Jesus Christ when he was on this earth. At the end of the service, a faithful member of Jeffreyston Church handed to the Godparents a candle which had been lit from the church's Easter Candle. This to symbolise the light of Christ, which had today come to baby Sally Elizabeth. On Monday, August 27, Jeffreyston Church will have a fund-raising stall at the Cresselly Country House Fayre, which starts at 12 noon. The church services for Sunday, August 26, are: 9 am - Eucharist, East Williamston; 10.30 am - Eucharist, Jeffreyston; 12 noon - Eucharist, Reynalton; 6 pm - Eucharist, Jeffreyston.
