At the January meeting of Jeffreyston Community Council, held recently, the following matters were discussed: Sunday pharmacy rota services: Members were pleased to learn that Pembrokeshire LHB had determined that there should be no change in the current arrangements and that the Sunday rota in Tenby should continue and be kept separate from the rota in Saundersfoot and Kilgetty. Removal of BT payphones: A letter was received from BT Payphones stressing that every payphone considered for removal receives low usage, usually a fraction of that expected. In order to safeguard the future of the payphone network, it was vital that payphones were removed where there is no significant demand for service. They were currently working with mobile 'phone operators to improve their services, but BT Payphones could not be held responsible for poor mobile reception, which was due to the operators decision not to invest in certain areas. It was agreed to request that Cadw considers 'listing' the telephone kiosk situated at Cresswell Quay. Precept for 2005/2006: Consideration was given to the amount of precept required for the next financial year. As the amount levied could be increased by £250 over the current financial year without increasing the amount paid by council taxpayers in the community, owing the revaluation and rebanding which had taken place, it was agreed to precept the sum of £1,750 for 2005/2006. Planning application: No objection was raised to a planning application for the conservation and conversion of the former St. Lawrence Church, Yerbeston, into a dwelling. Highway matters: Road surface, The Norton to Cresswell Quay: Pembrokeshire County Council would be moving all surfacing affected by acids in farm waste breaking down the bitumen in the tarmac materials and to machine lay a new wearing course. However, funding for this work was not available at present, so the situation would be monitored and temporary repairs carried out as and when required. Footpath to St. Oswald's School: Signs were to be provided on the new footpath from The Wynch to St. Oswald's School in order to prevent dog fouling on the path. Removal of BT payphones: After consideration of a letter from Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, it was agreed to make representations to British Telecom objecting to the removal of payphones. At present none of the payphones in the council's area were earmarked for removal. Public entertainment licence renewals: No objections were raised to the renewal of public entertainment licences in respect of premises in the council's area, viz. Jeffreyston Inn and Martletwy YFC Hall, Cresselly. School crossing - The Wynch, Jeffreyston: Following the receipt of complaints, it was agreed to request Pembrokeshire County Council to provide advance warning signs and beacons to indicate the location of the position of the crossing.
