Food for thought is being served up to primary school children in Narberth today (Friday).
Over 70 youngsters from Narberth and Brynconin schools are rolling up their sleeves to take part in the traditional curtain-raiser to the annual Narberth Food Festival - Education Day.
A sensory workshop, together with skills such as sausage-making (and eating!), bread-making, yoga and animation are on the menu to give the youngsters an insight into the the ‘grow, cook, eat’ cycle of our food today.
“We’re aiming to explain to the children about the history of the food they eat and its role in nature,“ said Narberth Food Festival chairman Huw Jones.
“What is so good about our Education Day is that it creates a memorable and conducive learning environment - the children have got our festival marquee all to themselves and what they learn stays with them for a very long time.
“It’s great to see them coming back to the festival over the weekend with their parents and then continuing to return as young adults.”
Once the kids have had their day, the festival swings into life and thousands of people are expected to attend the event on the Town Moor, Narberth.
Alongside over 50 stalls, the festival features celebrity chef demonstrations From Angela Gray, Anand George, Ludovic Dieumegard, Vic North and Beca Lyne-Purkis, Talks and Tastes sessions - showcasing some of the products on offer - and a full programme of live music and entertainment.
All the demos and talks will be British Sign Language interpreted.
Narberth Food Festival is open tomorrow (Saturday) from 10 am - 6 pm and Sunday from 10 am - 4 pm. Admission charges are £4 tomorrow, £3 on the Sunday and just £5 for a weekend ticket. Under 18s are admitted free.
