Pembrokeshire County Council's deputy leader and cabinet member for major events, Clr. Rob Lewis, described Sunday's Ironman Wales as 'another stunning success'.

"This year's event was even bigger than last year, with supporters out all along the South Pembrokeshire course. Tenby itself was heaving and the atmosphere was buzzing throughout the day.

"Ironman Wales is a wonderful advertisement for our county. The publicity it generates worldwide is something that as a local authority we could never afford to buy.

"And with around 1,500 competitors, many of them bringing along family and friends in support in the days leading up to the event, the boost to our tourist economy will have been significant.

"Last year's event is estimated to have generated a £3.4m spend in the county and this year's bigger and better event will have surpassed that."

Council vice-chairman, Clr. Arwyn Williams, meanwhile, said the day also reflected great credit on the people and organisations, who had worked together to make the event such a success.

"To see the number of people who turned out on the day to support the competitors was extremely satisfying," he said.
