The Mayor of Tenby has said that this year's Ironman Wales event held in the town recently was 'absolutely phenomenal' and that she hopes that the resort and Pembrokeshire are able to continue to host it for years to come.

Speaking at Tuesday night's meeting, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane told her colleague: "How lucky we are to have been chosen as the venue to stage such an absolutely phenomenal event."

The Mayor herself was also congratulated on her efforts to greet all the competitors over the finishing line following the marathon.

"Well done to the Mayor for her own efforts in greeting the finishers at the end," commented Clr. Lawrence Blackhall.

"One thing that makes the event what it is, is not just the fantastic competitors, but also the support they get from the crowds and the involvement of the businesses that put extra things on over the weekend and the people in the community that help to make it such a fantastic occasion.

"I overheard a competitor who was around The Esplanade the day after Ironman say that they couldn't think of a finishing line with a better view," added Clr. Lawrence Blackhall.

Clr. Mike Evans suggested that a letter go to Pembrokeshire County Council's chief executive and deputy leader Rob Lewis especially for his 'phenomenal efforts' over the last three years, congratulating them on their efforts to aid the event.

He also said that a letter should go to the Welsh Government minister, to encourage that the event be kept in the town, and praised the work and knowledge of the town's Tourist Information Centre in locating last minute accommodation for some of the competitors.

Clr. Mrs Tish Rossiter also offered her congratulations to all the local people who completed the Ironman.

"There were some amazing feats and wonderful achievements," she remarked.
