BBC television personality Iolo Williams has taken the plunge in Welsh waters to get a first hand view on a wartime survivor which is playing a major role in a unique heritage project.

Iolo joined members of the Pembroke Dock Sunderland Trust Dive Group to dive on a Sunderland flying boat which sank off Pembroke Dock in 1940.

The Sunderland, serial number T9044, is one of only four left in the world and the only surviving Mark I version which saw operational service with the RAF in the Battle of the Atlantic Campaign.

Iolo's dive on the Sunderland, alongside Dive Group member Rik Saldanha and the Aden Productions film crew, will be seen in a new series which he will present on BBC Wales next year.

In support of the dive, which was made off Haven based dive boat 'Blue Thunder' operated by brothers Will and John Fenneberg, were Dive Group members Julie and Dai Humphreys.

Many parts from Sunderland T9044 are already on display at the UK's only Flying Boat Centre, run by the Sunderland Trust at Pembroke Dock.
