EVENTS in Tenby 30 years ago have been featured in the Western Mail's Retro Report.
A recent column featured how the 'paper covered the march by 200 Tenby teenagers protesting against lack of entertainment facilities. Some carried banners, one of which read: 'Tenby is a ghost town.' And another: 'In Tenby - life begins at 80 - bingo, whist and old-time dancing.'
The teenagers had a police escort for the quarter- mile walk through the streets to the Guildhall, where they sat in the forecourt and chanted: 'Down with the council.'
The Mayor, Mrs. G. M. Dowsett and the Mayor- designate, Alderman Ivor Crockford, had earlier refused to receive a petition so this was pushed through the Guildhall letterbox by one of the organisers, Miss Carole Thomas, of Picton Road.
The petition protesting against the lack of entertainment facilities bore 700 signatures. Many thanks to Peter Evans, of Llangwm, near Usk, for sending us the cutting.
