On Wednesday, May 3, the Oxfam Live roadshow paid a visit to Pembroke based development education centre and charity, Global Connections at the Eastgate Centre.

The day was about awareness-raising on the wonderful humanitarian work that Oxfam undertakes throughout the world and in the UK. There were motivating stories, inspiring presentations and stimulating discussions, all highlighting the many different ways that the public and voluntary support can contribute to put an end to poverty!

Catherine Hester, head of Oxfam Cymru, opened the Oxfam Live event with an overview about their work.

Amanda Perrins, co-ordinator of Global Connections, followed on with a short presentation on Global Connections' role as one of only three development education centres in Wales.

Sophie Mack Smith gave an inspiring talk about Oxfam's approach to humanitarian response and an overview of Oxfam's humanitarian emergency work in 2005.

International project officer, Pham Thi Hong, who works with the Vietnam Education Programme, was dressed in traditional national costume and gave a presentation on development projects in her homeland; she also delighted all with her traditional Vietnamese singing.

There was a campaigns workshop providing an opportunity for all to learn about last year's Make Poverty History Campaign and find out how they could become involved in 2006 and build on existing campaigning support.

Later in the day there was opportunity to taste some of the development education workshops that would develop children's understanding of global issues.

The day concluded with a panel question and answer session, with participants having the opportunity to put questions to the Oxfam Live team and giving them the opportunity to air their views.
