A police officer who hails from Tenby and touched the nation with her inspirational story of how she has overcome serious mental health issues whilst training for one of the world’s greatest sporting events has been raising awareness and funds for charity again.

Georgina Lloyd, 42, successfully crossed the finishing line of Sunday’s Cardiff Half Marathon for the charity 2 Wish Upon A Star.

The former Greenhill School pupil, one of 10 who took part in the BBC1 documentary Mind over Marathon which has followed them in their daily struggles to conquer mental health battles whilst training for the London Marathon in April, laced up her running shoes along with fellow programme stars Jake Tyler, Mel Belsdon and Rhian Burke.

Originally from Neyland, Rhian founded the charity 2 Wish Upon A Star in 2012 after she suffered the sudden loss of her son George and husband Paul. The charity aims to to improve bereavement services across Wales to support families who have suffered the sudden loss of a child and funds raised will go towards helping those who are in need of immediate support.

BBC presenter Nick Knowles, who presented Mind over Marathon, has recently become an ambassador for the charity and joined the quartet for a pre-race meal and to wish them luck.

“Cardiff half marathon was such an amazing event,” said Georgina, who also has Long Course Weekend and Saundersfoot triathlon medals from this year to add to her haul.

“The volunteers, crowd and fellow runners were all incredible - oh and I got my half marathon PB too!”
