An innovative scheme has been launched in Tenby to help combat anti-social behaviour in the town. Tenby Pubwatch/LVA have been working with local police sergeant Gary Jones to develop a radio network, which will link 10 participating premises in the area with each other and the police station. This scheme is the first of its kind in the Dyfed-Powys Police area. The radios have been supplied by England Electrical, of Neyland, and have been paid for in the first year by funding sourced by the Pembrokeshire Community Safety Partnership. Seen here at the launch of the scheme on Friday are Peter Brown, chairman of the Pubwatch, together with Damien Brown, Tony Davies, licensing officer, PC Max Bevan, community safety officer, Lisa May and other representatives of the licensed trade in Tenby. Damian Brown, chairman of Tenby LVA, stated: "The licensees of Tenby are keen to work together and with the police to ensure that Tenby remains a safe place for people to come and enjoy themselves. This radio network will help to ensure the minority who cause problems find themselves excluded from all participating premises in Tenby." The police welcome the co-operation of the licensed trade within Tenby, which will give them 10 points of contact. The licensees not only are able to contact the police, but can receive information from officers to assist in the policing of the town. This can even include non-crime matters, such as lost children. Inspector Les Clark, of Tenby Police Station, stated: "This radio network will complement the excellent town centre CCTV system and help to ensure that persons who do engage in anti-social behaviour in Tenby will find that only my premises (the police station) will accommodate them."
