The club held its Handover Lunch at the Giltar on Monday, July 1, when Jo Steele handed the chain of office to Jan Griffiths, who is president for 2013/14.
The ceremony and lunch had been postponed so that members could attend the funeral of Roma Griffiths who died suddenly. Roma was a long and very active member and will be greatly missed by all members of the club as indeed she will be by our community as a whole.
Before Jo passed the baton to Jan, she had the great pleasure of giving honorary membership to two long-standing members, Boo Markes and Joan Osborne.
The occasion was enjoyed by all who were able to attend, marking as it did a very successful presidency for Jo and the beginning of a second term of office for Jan.
Her charity for the year will be the Harriet Davies Trust, but as usual we hope to raise lots of funds for other local charities as well.
The final planned outing of Jo's presidency was to the Botanical Gardens on Friday, July 5, and it turned out to be the start of our beautiful summer weather. Sixteen of us went and we had a fabulous time, many had been before, but for those who were there for the first time it was a great treat and what a lovely setting, splendid views across the Carmarthenshire countryside from the outside and from the inside of the building.
The first outing planned by Jan and organised by Meryl is an evening cruise around Caldey, followed by supper at No. 25. This will be on Wednesday, August 21.
We will be baking Welsh cakes at the Fireman's Carnival on Wednesday, August 7. Our first business meeting will be on Monday, September 9 at the Giltar.
