The Inner Wheel Club of Tenby held its Handover Lunch on Monday, June 25, at the New Overlander.
Marlene Green officially handed over the chain of office to Jo Steele, who is now president for 2012/2013 (writes club correspondent Doreen Mortimer).
It was an occasion enjoyed by those club members who were able to attend. President Jo's guests were Rosemary Proctor of the Soroptimists, with an apology from Kath Morgan of Ladies Circle, who was unable to come. Her other guests were members of her family who, like all of us, wanted to show their support and to welcome her into what is sure to be a memorable and fun year. President Jo comes with loads of experience as she has been busy organising outings and other events for us as programme secretary.
A delightful surprise for Jo was a visit from Linda Tulley, down from the Sheffield area, where she has been president of her local Inner Wheel Club. She has been District chairman and is a long term member of Inner Wheel and is Karen's mother-in-law. Jo had no idea she would be there, it was such a well kept secret. Her presence certainly added to the sense of occasion.
We all indulged in the most delicious buffet style lunch which included ham, turkey and a whole salmon, with lots of different salads. Dessert was a choice of a scrumptious cheese cake or fresh strawberries - it was hard to make a decision. Our thanks go to Karen and Andy and their team for making us so welcome and feeding us so well.
There was also a beautifully decorated cake for Jo, a gift from Jack and Jenny Cole and baked and iced by a friend of theirs.
President Jo's main charity for her year will be HOPE, but she also plans to raise funds for Arthritis Care and other local charities. It will be a busy year, but she is looking forward to it, as are we all.
On Monday, July 9, a lunch has been arranged at Lawrenny and we are all hoping for a respite from the rain so that we can walk off its effects.
On Wednesday, August 1, we will be baking Welsh cakes at the Firemen's Carnival and we will be doing the same for Rotary on the Harbour on Sunday, July 29, and August 12. President Jo's first business meeting will be on Monday, September 10.
