The first meeting of the New Year was held at the Fourcroft Hotel on Monday afternoon. President Joyce reported on the many events she had attended over the Christmas period and also on the various club activities since the last meeting.
Members had supported the NSPCC tea in Saundersfoot, the Rotary and Inner Wheel carol service and the town carol service at St. Mary's, also the Gateway Christmas party at the Rugby Club.
Quite a few members had attended the joint dinner hosted by Tenby Tangent Club, in November, when the guest speaker was Deborah Griffiths from BBC's 'Coal House'.
Betty Charnock had once again co-ordinated the collection of 'shoe boxes' for Operation Christmas Child. It had been another superb result and 600 boxes were sent away in November for distribution to underprivileged children in Eastern European and other countries.
A particularly enjoyable December afternoon had been spent visiting the homes, where president Joyce and members gave gifts for the residents and, in one or two, were encouraged to lead the carol singing!
The Candle Light Supper in December had been a lovely evening, greatly enjoyed by everyone who had attended. The 'Three Ladies' provided brilliant entertainment and the event raised a considerable amount for the charity 'Debra'.
Another very acceptable donation to the charity came from chairman Jayne and the girls of Tenby Ladies Circle following a 'Pandora's Box' party in November.
Christmas lunch at the Broadmead had, once again, been one of the highlights of the year. Good food, the company of good friends and the 'Christmas spirit'.
World Inner Wheel Day was commemorated last Sunday when president Joyce and members attended a service at Penally Church, followed by lunch at Penally Abbey.
Correspondence was then dealt with and forthcoming events announced. Quite a few members will support the events of neighbouring clubs in the coming weeks.
Inner Wheel member, Karen Tulley had entered the Boxing Day Swim, accompanied by her mother-in-law, who is chairman of Inner Wheel District 127. They were congratulated by the president.
A presentation was made to Boo Marks who, together with husband Tony, were celebrating 50 years of the beginning of Tenby Pottery. It was on New Year's Day in 1959 that Tony 'threw the first pot' at the Stable Yard premises in Upper Frog Street.
Arrangements were made for the quiz night on February 12 at Tenby Bowling Club, with the proceeds going to the Paul Sartori Foundation. The Annual Charity Lunch will be held on March 25 in St. Johns Church.
The lucky raffle was 'Health and Safety', Mrs. Betty Ramsay.
The next meeting will be on February 9, at 2 pm, when Mrs. Doreen Hammersley will talk on Apple Dolls. Please bring a Golden Delicious apple and an apple peeler.
