Coastguard teams from Tenby, St. Govans and Castlemartin, together with the South Pembrokeshire sector manager and the rescue helicopter 'Rescue 169' from RAF Chivenor were tasked to the west of St. Govan's Head on Wednesday evening following a report that a male climber had fallen off Saddle Head.
Saddle Head is a favourite climbing area, with climbs of varying degrees of difficulty.
The 26-year-old climber from Marloes fell some 20 to 30 feet, hitting an outcrop which stemmed his fall. He had been lead climbing a route known as 'Forgotten Corner'.
The helicopter winch man and a paramedic from the Welsh Ambulance Service were lowered down to the injured person and his injuries were stabilised. The climber, with deep lacerations and a suspected broken leg, was then airlifted by the rescue helicopter to Withybush Hospital.
