Sir,
I hope nobody has the misfortune to get 'caught short' whilst they are in the vicinity of the East End of Pembroke. If they do they will find that the public conveniences are shut and are not due to reopen until April!
The curt sign on the locked door informs residents and visitors that the nearest toilets are situated on The Commons, a great distance to walk if you are in desperate need, or happen to be on water tablets!
Our area of the town has had to wait eight years for a sign that indicates the direction of the lavatories. The sign was only put up last month and as soon as it went up the county council closed them.
You couldn't make it up!
We have precious few public amenities in Pembroke as it is and now the powers that be see fit to remove an essential service.
The Coach House and the Top of Town Chip shop now continually have to allow people who are in urgent need, to use their facilities.
Perhaps the county council would like to pay for the cleaning and maintenance of their toilets?
Open the lavatories please. We are experiencing are lot of complaints from angry residents, and visitors to the town.
Melanie Phillips,
Pembroke.
