At the recent All Wales Ploughing Match held in the Vale of Glamorgan, a new cup was presented for the best tractor ploughman from the counties of Pembroke, Carmarthen and Glamorgan.

The perpetual memorial trophy had been donated by Cathy Thomas (wife of the match president, Edward Thomas) and her sister, Diane Evans, in memory of their parents, Glyn and Barbara Davies, who farmed successfully at Pantgwyn, Whitland, until Glyn’s untimely death several years ago.

In his day, Glyn (a brother of Ken Davies, of Manorbier) had been a very keen ploughman and had competed in the semi-digger class at many Welsh and British championship events. He was also a popular figure at the County Show where he stewarded the sheep classes.

Mrs. Davies, who was originally from Haverfordwest, passed away last year.

In our photograph, Cathy Evans congratulates Rhodri George, of Haverfordwest, the first winner of the prize.
