Dyfed Powys Police recently ran an operation to target those who drive illegally on our road network. The operation, which was run over two weeks, was carried out in partnership with the DVLA and utilised systems such as ANPR to target unlawful driving. The police made 53 arrests during the operation whereby 17 drivers were found to be driving while under the influence of alcohol, 10 of which were related to vehicle crime and one person was arrested for committing a sexual offence. Five stolen vehicles were also recovered, while the DVLA seized 48 vehicles for driving without a vehicle excise licence. The police utilised powers under Section 165 and seized over 70 vehicles for driving without insurance or a valid licence. Chief Inspector Phil Davies, Dyfed Powys Police, said: "By working in partnership and utilising intelligence led systems, we can make a difference to road safety and ensure that the message gets across to the small element of drivers that would contemplate using the road network in an illegal manner and to think twice before drink driving or driving without a licence." He added: "We will continue to target those drivers who would put the lives of others at risk by driving illegally." If you have any information about anyone who is driving illegally, we would urge you to contact CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111.
