The autumn sun saw huge crowds visiting the annual Pembroke Michaelmas Fair last weekend, with many regular fair-goers commenting that Friday evening was the busiest for very many years.

The popular fair, which can be traced back to a royal charter granted in medieval times, attracted young and old to Main Street to enjoy the numerous side stalls and attractions.

The main attraction for those brave enough to venture on it, was the Speed Whizz ride which propelled adrenalin junkies strapped to the end of a rotating arm 120 feet into the Pembroke sky before returning to the ground at breakneck speed!

Following the traditional opening of the fair by Clr. Keith Nicholas (Mayor of Pembroke), a reception hosted by the Showmen's Guild was held at Pembroke Town Hall, where Mr. Abie Danter (chairman) thanked the people of Pembroke for their warm hospitality and commented how welcome Guild members were always made to feel by the Pembroke community.

During the evening, Mr. Danter presented a giant teddy bear to Hugh Colley (town clerk) to recognise his hard work organising the event.

The bear, together with a giant panda, were raffled, raising £220 for the Help for Heroes charity.
