Sir,
How irritating to read ‘Humbug! Mayor hits back’, your lead article in last week’s Observer which commented on a letter Mr. C. Fecci had sent to Tenby Town Council. The gentleman had dared to question organisational aspects of Tenby’s Christmas festivities. I don’t think I have ever met Mr. Fecci and I dislike fish and chips, so no personal interest here!
Clr. Sue Lane (don’t slag us off) and Clr. Rossiter (put your money where your mouth is) so eloquently stated their displeasure on receiving this letter from Mr. Fecci. These ladies forget that freedom of speech, including criticism, is to be defended at all costs and belittling anyone who disagrees is unkind and unnecessary and says more about the accuser than the receiver of such remarks. An apology would be nice?
The many organisations that come together and work so hard for festive and charity events in Tenby deserve high praise, support and thanks for all they do, but good publicity, which was sadly lacking on this occasion, needs looking at for next year’s events, as does timing to prevent clashes with other major celebrations.
Maybe the town council could send a letter to all shops and businesses in Tenby asking if and how they would like to be involved in future events. New lights maybe, surprising what happens when people come together?
Christine K.
Tenby.
