How do you convince younger people that crime really doesn't pay?
One way is to start talking to them! Obvious really, and the Dyfed Powys Criminal Justice Board is working to do just that.
As part of the national campaign, Inside Justice Week, the board is launching the first ever Criminal Justice System Schools Package to every secondary school in the area.
Students can learn from structured classroom discussions, DVDs, Fact Files, Crime to Sentence and Beyond processes as well as a quiz. All this has been designed to help students have confidence in the Criminal Justice System, raise their awareness of what each criminal justice agency does and teaches them what they can expect from the system as an offender, a victim or a witness.
It is clear that prevention is better than cure, so getting these key messages to the youth age group is very important for everyone.
Caroline Morgan, chair of Dyfed Powys Criminal Justice Board, said: "As a board, we wanted to be able to tell younger people not only about the consequences of getting involved in crime, but the support that is in place should they become a victim or witness."
Dyfed Powys Criminal Justice Board has been assisted in the development of this Criminal Justice System Schools Package by Dyfed Powys Police Schools Liaison team as well as the CPS, Dyfed- Powys Probation, Youth Offending Service, HM Courts Service, HM Prison Service, Legal Services Commission and Victim Support.
