Tenby's Fourcroft Hotel has been shortlisted to the UK's top three in the annual HRS Hotel Excellence Awards for its innovative staff training initiatives.
The Fourcroft team has been selected for its staff treasure hunt; over two days last spring, teams of four or five ventured out and around Tenby to find locations identified by photos. The highest scoring team was rewarded with tickets to Heatherton Activity Theme Park.
Whilst having fun on the day, Chris Osborne, of the Fourcroft Hotel, explained that the staff also enjoyed a new way of team building (staff had to work with people from outside of their own departments) as well as learning lots of information about the town. This is then available to guests, adding to their leisure experience.
"It is always surprising how much we don't know about the places where we live and work. We like to offer our customers local information and suggestions, so it must make sense to ensure we all have that knowledge to hand over."
The judges' final decision will be revealed at a ceremony at Altitude 360, on the top floor of London's Millbank Tower, on January 26.
