Withybush Hospital's radiography department has won a prestigious award designed to highlight the achievements of outstanding radiography teams across the UK. The hospital's general radiography team has been named as 'Best Radiography Team of the Year' in Wales by the UK Society of Radiographers. The annual accolades recognise outstanding contribution and commitment of radiographers in leading service improvements and driving forward patient-led care. The team attended a special ceremony at the House of Commons in London on Wednesday where they received their award from the director of cancer services, Mr. Graham Richards. Said Gill Cross, of the radiography department: "We are absolutely delighted to receive this award as it demonstrates the dedication of the whole team in working together to deliver and improve services locally. It is also particularly significant to us as the nomination was made by a radiographer working within our team who appreciated this special contribution first hand." The team was nominated for the award by student radiographer Raymond Kelly, from Bangor School of Radiography, who nominated them for outstanding teaching support provided during a one-year study placement at Withybush Hospital. The nomination was judged by the UK Council for the Society of Radiographers. Three representatives of the radiography team, Gillian Cross, Biddy Williams and Tammi Grey, travelled to the House of Commons to collect the award on behalf of the department. Said Pembrokeshire and Derwen NHS Trust chief executive Keith Thomson: "This award not only demonstrates the contribution and dedication of Withybush Hospital's radiography team, but is particularly relevant in the wake of the announcement that Withybush Hospital is soon to have its own £1.3m state-of-the-art MRI scanner. This will provide much more advanced diagnostic services to Pembrokeshire patients. "We are extremely proud of the whole team and congratulate them on their success."
