Paul Sartori Hospice at Home, a Pembrokeshire-based charity, is appealing for public support to raise money for end-of-life patients to have free access to more equipment so they can be cared for at home.

‘Equipping the community to be independent’ campaign was launched on ‘crowdfunder’ with the assistance of the Calor Rural Community Fund. Paul Sartori Hospice at Home are hoping to raise £2,000 for additional equipment.

The charity provides a range of free, vital services in Pembrokeshire. One of these services provided in the community is the Equipment Loan.

This service provides essential equipment to support the independence of end-of-life patients, their families and carers.

A range of items are available free of charge, including beds, specialist mattresses, bathing aids, wheel chairs and commodes which are vital for patients to remain at home.

Following a patient assessment; the equipment is delivered by the Paul Sartori Equipment Team; items are assembled in patient’s homes with relevant easy to follow instructions. The Team are also trained to transfer patients.

Many patients benefit from the rapid response delivery service, which is often same-day, and in some cases can expedite discharge or prevent admission to hospital for patients.

Paul Sartori Hospice at Home wish to purchase a range of items following this campaign which will benefit end-of-life patients in Pembrokeshire, including ‘Drive Power Hybrid Mattresses’, providing pressure relieving assistance; ‘Repose Overlay Mattresses’, which can be fitted to the patient’s own bed and offer pressure relieving properties and ‘Drop Arm Wheeled Commodes’, offering the user a good level of comfort and support.

These items will see positive changes for patients now (and those in the future); enabling greater independence and comfort; ensuring patients continue to enjoy their normal network of family and friends at home.

“This year is the first year that Paul Sartori has taken part in the Calor Rural Community Fund,” said Judith Williams, the Grants Coordinator at Paul Sartori Hospice at Home.

“We are hoping that the public will get behind us and support us in our aim of ‘equipping the community to be independent’.

“Donations are welcomed online or through our offices (making reference to the project). The campaign will run until Thursday, July 16, so supporters have a number of weeks to help.”

Paul Sartori Hospice at Home provide a range of services to Pembrokeshire people living in the final stages of a life limiting illness, including home nursing care, equipment loan, complementary therapy, bereavement and counselling support, physiotherapy, advance care planning and training.
