Despite the gale force winds, this Friday evening fixture produced another exciting and hard fought contest between these two teams.
This set the pattern for the first half as the big and mobile Pembroke pack used the elements to pin their opponents in their own 22 for much of the time. The Narberth defence though was strong as both forwards and backs tackled bravely to defend their line and on a couple of occasions they managed to drive play back into the Pembroke half.
When it seemed that they had weathered the storm, they gave away a soft try just before half-time as a misdirected pass bounced over the line to gift a Pembroke flanker a touchdown that was converted.
With the strong wind in Narberth's favour in the second half, it was their turn to apply almost constant pressure to the home defence.
It was not long before this brought points onto the board when, following a storming run, big second row forward Gareth Jones crossed for a try that was converted by flanker Nick Jones.
From the restart, Pembroke soon hit back when a missed tackle allowed their number eight to break free from a maul for a long run in under the posts for a converted try.
This set-back jolted the visitors into an even greater effort as they attacked the Pembroke try line for long periods, but found it difficult to breach a very strong defence. This was finally achieved when winger John Boswell crossed in the corner.
With only a few minutes remaining, the Narberth youngsters threw everything into attack for a thrilling finish. A number of players came close to crossing the Pembroke line, but were again thwarted by an excellent defence.
The final whistle went to the relief of the home supporters to bring to an end an excellent game of rugby.
The Narberth team was: Daniel Adams, William Roberts, Rhodri James, Rian Whatmore, Rory Bennett, Gethin Salter, John Boswell, Daniel Higginson, Sammy Hampson, Gavin James, Sam Mcnaghton, Nick Jones, Tom Parssels, Luke Davies, Gareth Jones, Sam Webster-Smith, Jamie Lewis, Paul Brown.
