The average age of ladies playing golf at clubs in Great Britain is nearly 60, so it is reassuring that in Tenby we have a number of junior girls who are making their mark in the game. Leading these at the moment is 17-year-old Holly Watkins. We have watched Holly's progress for nearly a decade and over the years she has progressed down the handicap lists regularly, winning both club and national competitions and while doing this has obviously increased her skills in all aspects of the game. This year, besides winning a number of Tenby trophies, as we have come to expect, she has won the South Wales Girls' Championship at Bargoed in June and more recently the West Wales Championship at Clyne. To play to scratch at Clyne while avoiding the four-legged hazards and the normal hazards is no mean feat! These results have been achieved while reducing her handicap to two. At the end of this month she will be representing Welsh Schools against England at Harlech and we wish her a successful series of matches on a course she knows and plays well. B. M. S.
