TENBY LADIES 10 CRYMYCH 0
On Sunday, a very eager Tenby Ladies hockey team turned up at Cardigan Leisure Centre two-and-a- half hours earlier than needed. After a particularly long warm-up, which included tea and cakes, Tenby were hungry for another win after their encouraging win against Fishguard two weeks prior. As soon as the starting whistle blew, Tenby put their 'stamp' on the game, immediately attacking down the right wing towards the opponents' circle. Several accurate crosses were sent in by Alex Pearce and Elen Jones, eventually resulting in the first short corner of the match. A sweetly accurate push from captain Mandy Lewis to Miriam Brown gave her time to hit the ball powerfully into the back of the goal. Within minutes, Alex Pearce scored her first goal of the match from her favourite position on the left post, and this was quickly followed by a successful strike by Mandy Lewis. After 20 minutes of play, the score was already 3-0 and Tenby looked hungry for even more goals. Jude Roberts scored her first goal of the season from the right goal post, and this was followed four minutes later by a cracking strike from the top of the circle by Annie Rossiter. The score at half-time was an impressive 5-0. In the second half, Tenby played the kind of hockey that absent coach, Dave Miller, would have been proud of, and bored goalkeeper Annie Lindsell simply stood in awe of her team's performance. Five more goals were scored in the half. Miriam Brown grabbed her second from open play, Yvonne Squire scored her fourth of the season from a short corner, the youngster Alex Pearce added another to her score sheet, and Elen Jones netted her first on her debut for the club. It is impossible to name any individual outstanding performances, as the whole team played the best hockey they have played for many seasons, and all should be congratulated on an outstanding team performance. Squad: Mandy Lewis (capt.), Miriam Brown, Annie Lindsell, Lisa Sheldon, Michelle Johns, Ruth Ferguson, Yvonne Squire, Jude Roberts, Alex Pearce, Annie Rossiter, Elen Jones, Bryony Rees.
