Coastguards from Tenby joined other rescue teams from the area to search the Cleddau Bridge and Upper Reaches of the River Cleddau on Friday evening following a 'may day' call.
Dale and St. Govan's coastguards, together with both the Angle lifeboat and inshore craft and various port authority vessels, responded to the incident at approximately 8 pm, but it turned out to be a hoax, after the wheelhouse of a vessel was entered at Hobbs Point and its radio used to make the malicious call.
