Following their successful introduction last autumn, Colby Woodland Garden will be hosting another 'History Walk and Lunch' on Tuesday, September 18, from 11 am - 1.30 pm. Led by National Trust volunteer Richard Powell, the walk will focus on the social and industrial history of the Colby Estate, starting with Colonel John Colby, his building of Colby Lodge and his involvement in anthracite coal mining. Steve Whitehead, Colby's head gardener, said: "Whether you are just interested in enjoying a guided walk and finding out more about the history of the garden, or you already have some local knowledge which you would like to share, this will be a fascinating way to learn more." The event will start at 11 am with a walk of about one-and-a-half hours and will finish with lunch in the Bothy Tearoom. Cost is £15 per person and bookings can be made by 'phoning (01834) 811885 or by calling in to the National Trust Shop at Colby Woodland Garden, which is open daily from 10 am - 5 pm. The history walk and lunch will also be repeated on Tuesday, October 9. For more information about Colby Woodland Garden, visit http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk">www.nationaltrust.org.uk
