A little tired, but exhilarated after a long weekend of successful mission meetings, Rev. Peter Richmond and the Hesed musicians led the first part of the Sunday afternoon service with praise songs, readings and prayers. Returning visitors were given a warm welcome.
Dot read from Deuteronomy 31, the context of the message given by Mick Quirk.
Mick noted the three encouragements given by God to Joshua as he took over leading the Israelites after Moses' death.
The tribes had spent 40 years in the wilderness and were just about to enter the land God had promised to them and their descendants. However, it would not be long before the Israelites would forget their relationship with God Almighty and would start worshipping the gods and idols of the Canaanites.
Mick proved from the Bible how the three encouragements given to Joshua also apply to Jesus' followers today:
1. "Just as I was with Moses, so I am with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you." Jesus said the same to his disciples when he sent them into the world, saying, "I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
2. "Be strong and very courageous!" The New Testament says that the believer's strength comes from the Lord.
3. "Meditate on the word of God day and night, obeying it in every detail." Hebrews 4 describes the word of God as "sharper than a two-edged sword," and 2 Timothy 3:16 lists all the benefits of scripture.
Hesed Christian Fellowship hold Sunday services each week in Carringtons Restaurant, below the Atlantic Hotel, Tenby, at 4.15 pm. All are welcome. Other activities take place in the week: ring Pastor Peter Richmond for details on 01646 681805.
