The highs and lows of Chicken golf were certainly experienced by the Trotters on Tenby links on Friday morning. Among those enjoying the highs was David Henry, who strutted his stuff with such style that he returned to the shack with a superb 35 points. And, incredibly, that was off a reduced handicap of 22 - three less than his usual figure - as he was already serving a statutory sentence in the sin-bin after a previous prize outing. Whether he will ever climb out of that bin remains to be seen, as the lid will surely be locked tight for the foreseeable future. Serves him right, for his impressive, nay offensive, card included no blobs, five three-pointers and one four-pointer. The Chief Chicken and his court of cohorts were not amused! Remember Henry VIII and the fate of Ann Boleyn and Kathryn Howard... well someone else is set for the chop! Another who ruffled a few feathers in the roost was Rick Lewis, one of the Chicken Trotters' most consistent performers. He, too, revelled in the glorious sunshine and was last seen preening himself after earning a podium place and plenty of corn for his 32 points. When will he ever learn? For, he's another on his way to the chopping block. Ouch! Meanwhile, flying in following a secondment from the Turkey wing of the society was Fred Adlam, who we are sorry to report experienced severe transport and baggage-handling problems during his journey around the golf course. Indeed, some later suggested that he was 'off his trolley'... well his bag certainly was, if he wasn't, but it didn't stop him gobbling up the twos kitty. In fact, Fred bagged a brace, on the eighth and ninth, to earn some 'bootiful' booty... 60p to be exact! Hopefully he might put it to good use by purchasing a new set of wheels. Please! Finally, spare a thought for one of his playing partners, Paul James, who had high hopes of recording another major triumph after returning from a successful Rabbits tour. But as we all know, Chickens golf is a completely different kettle of fish. Shocked to find himself still shackled in the sin-bin after an early season appearance with the Trotters, Paul took a long time to recover, so long in fact, that he could only muster 16 points - and that was not enough to save him from the booby prize. Results: 1. David Henry 35 pts (£1.20); 2. Rick Lewis 32 (80p). Twos: Fred Adlam x2 on the 8th and 9th (60p). Booby: Paul James 16 pts (30p entry fee returned). FOOTNOTE: Chickens are reminded that the end of season competition for the Norman Badham Trophy and Roger and Mary Trophy will be played on Friday, May 4. It will be followed by a sumptuous meal, so get your names on the list now.
