Helicopters have featured strongly in the Pembrokeshire Aviation Group's winter programme.
At the well-attended January meeting, the guest speaker was former RAF helicopter winchman Bob Griffiths who served with 'B' Flight of 202 Squadron at RAF Brawdy.
After showing a short film of a Brawdy-based Sea King crew in action, Bob recalled some of the many dramatic rescue missions he had been involved in, during a career spanning over 20 years.
A previous speaker was group member Mike Wargent, who flew Wessex helicopters with 72 Squadron.
Using slides, Mike showed how the Wessex had been used in support of British Army operations in Northern Ireland during the 1970s and 80s.
For the December annual general meeting, the group returned to its regular venue at Withybush Airport clubhouse. Geraint Pynn was re-elected chairman along with other officers. Joining the committee were Mike Wargent and Ray Poole.
There was serious competition for a testing aviation quiz, devised by Shaun Bowman-Davies, the winner being John Evans.
Next group meeting is on Tuesday, February 10, at Withybush Clubhouse when Owen Vaughan of Pembroke will talk on 'Stories Behind The Headstones' found in Pembrokeshire graveyards, covering a century and a half of history from 1815 to the 1970s. The meeting begins at 7.30 pm.
