There was a feast of bowling at Heatherton Indoor Bowls Club at the weekend when the stadium staged its annual finals weekend.
A total of 20 ladies', men's and mixed competitions have been running over the past fortnight, which reached their conclusion on Saturday and Sunday.
Joyce Howe and John Roberts were crowned ladies' and men's singles champions, respectively. Joyce, who was celebrating her birthday on Saturday, had an extra present when she won the title for a third time, while John, whose birthday was on Monday, celebrated with a record sixth victory.
Both enjoyed successful weekends, with Joyce also winning the pairs, triples and Over 60s singles for a record fourth time, while John just failed in his bid to win all four main competitions for the second year running. He lost in the pairs, but won the triples and rinks.
The junior section were well respresented during the weekend, not only in their competitions, but also in the main events too. Welsh junior international Ysie White won the pairs, mixed triples and Under 16 singles, while Joe Dennis and Gemma Amos chalked up success in the Mixed Pairs. Joe also won the Under 25 singles, while Gemma was runner-up in the ladies' championship.
Tournament organiser, Mike Gouldingay would like to extend a special thank you to Messrs. T. Osborne and A. Newberry, who umpired during the finals, also all the markers throughout the fortnight, and last, but not least, the players who took part in the tournament and provided some fantastic bowling and sportsmanship.
At the well attended presentation evening on Wednesday, trophies and commemorative medals were presented by club president, Hugh and Mair Davies, owners of Heatherton, before members enjoyed a delicious buffet to round off a successful indoor season
