Heatherton 129 (17 pts.)
Pontardawe 107 (5)
Heatherton Indoor Bowls Club maintained their unbeaten run at home on Saturday with an impressive win against high-flyers Pontardawe.
Alan Whitehouse's rink got the St. Florence side off to a good start in the morning by winning by nine shots, but Michael Jackson and his four 'beat it' in the afternoon, cruising to a 40-10 victory in a 'thriller' against Ken Vaughan's foursome.
Peter Gilder, Ashley Hooper, John Baggott and Mike, in fact, only allowed their opponents to get on the scorecard during the last quarter of the game!
Elsewhere, Colin Wynn sneaked a one shot win, Steve Reese's combination drew, while there were defeats for John Roberts and Co and Tudor Harries's four, who went down by eight and 10, respectively.
With Heatherton stadium becoming something of a 'fortress' to visiting teams this season, Saturday's win certainly gives the side a boost and helps their chances of finishing at the top of the WIBA West Division league table.
Rink scores (Heatherton first, Pontardawe skips only) were as follows:
J. Dennis, J. Hubbard, C. Bromham, A Whitehouse 24; E. Davies 15.
R. Brabon, T. Brown, P. Blayney, J. Roberts 20; R. Ace 28.
L. Price, A. Jarvis, T. Lampkin, S. Reese 19; I. Terry 19.
M. Thorpe, J. Lewis, M. Evans, C. Wynn 17; C. Young 16.
P. Gilder, A. Hooper, J. Baggott, M. Jackson 40; K. Vaughan 10.
E. Dezelle, M. Gouldingay, G. Hewitt, T. Harries 9; A. Hopkins 19.
Heatherton do not have a game tomorrow (Saturday) because of the last group championship match at Islwyn. Heatherton's Paul Diment, John Roberts and Mike Jackson have all been selected for their section's team, while Alan Whitehouse is reserve.
The following Saturday, December 6, is the first round of the WIBA open singles, with the West section being played at Llanelli. Heatherton's sole representative, current club singles champion John Roberts, has been drawn against Dave Buchanan from The Meads.
Heatherton's next game in the club championship is on Saturday, December 13, away at the new Swansea stadium.
