Earlswood 123 (19 pts.)

Heatherton 106

Heatherton came second best when they travelled to Earlswood on Saturday.

In their second club championship game of the indoor season, they were beaten by 17 shots and only managed to bag three out of a maximum 22 points up for grabs.

It could however have been six points as two rinks - those skipped by John Baggott and Alan Whitehouse - were just pipped at the post with a draw for John and three-shot defeat for Alan.

Only winning rink for the visitors was that of Huw Davies, Ronnie Brabon, Paul Blayney and John Roberts who chalked up a five-shot win which earned them the kitty.

Heatherton's other rinks, those skipped by Colin Wynn, Paul Diment and Steve Reese, went down by four, six and eight shots respectively.

After opening exchanges, Heatherton always seemed to be playing catch-up in this game, but the team kept fighting and managed to close the gap to just six shots towards the end of the match.

It was not enough though as the Earlswood side pulled away in the closing stages.

Nevertheless, the Heatherton selectors were upbeat about the performance as this is the closest the team has ever come to beating Earlswood on their own carpet.

Tomorrow (Saturday), sees a local derby game when Heatherton entertain The Meads, with three rinks in the morning and three in the afternoon.

Rink scores were as follows:

P. Gilder, T. Brown, M. Jackson, J. Baggott drew 15-all.

L. Price, A. Hooper, G. Hewitt, P. Diment lost 25-19.

J. Dennis, B. Deeley, T. Harries, S. Reese lost 24-16.

K. Beirschenk, M. Johns, M. Evans, C. Wynn lost 19-14.

H. Davies, R. Brabon, P. Blayney, J. Roberts won 21-16.

J. Hammond, J. Hubbard, C. Bromham, A. Whitehouse lost 24-21.
