Undeterred by a dismally wet morning, at least one newcomer made a good start to the New Year by turning up for Saturday's Steps2Health walk (writes B.S.).
About two-dozen walkers, all in their waterproofs, met outside Somerfield. Nice though it is to walk on sunny days, it actually can be of more benefit to the individual to have a cheerful purpose for venturing out in such weather, to meet up with the now familiar friendly faces and enjoy a walk on a day when the majority may not have ventured out on their own.
One couple did turn up just to say they would do their shopping instead of coming on the walk, with the weather being so bad. However, we had not gone more than a few hundred yards, when they caught us up! The lure had proved too great! Surprisingly, the weather did not seem so bad once we were down on the North Beach. As the tide was ebbing, Barbara Morris led the way right across the beach. With no wind, it proved to be a very mild morning.
Back across the beach, to the harbour and some continued round the Castle Hill, while the majority made their way up town to enjoy a coffee or tea. We do, however, hope for better weather tomorrow (Saturday) for our walk at Stackpole. The minibus will leave Somerfield at 10.30 am. There are only a limited number of seats available, but if you need transport, ring Paul Morris 07773 788173.
If you are taking a car, meet approximately 11 am in Stackpole Centre car park - follow the signs to Mencap gardens. It is important, for you own safety, that you wear appropriate footwear for this country walk.
