A local man has generously donated an electric wheelchair to Ward 11 at Withybush General Hospital as a thank you and appreciation of care to his late father.

Tony Pullen’s father, Ron, husband of Joan, passed away in June 2016 on Ward 11. Tony wanted to give something back to Ward 11 to say thank you for the end of life care and support his father received.

The money was raised through donations from family, friends and the local community and a clay pigeon shoot event organised by Lawrenny Keys Shooting Club with support from the local league.

The chair, worth £2,000, is already being used and has been beneficial for the ward in both treatment and assessment.

Ceri Dean, clinical lead OT for Stroke Pembrokeshire, said: “This electric wheelchair is going to make such a difference in so many ways, for assessment, treatment and some recreational activities for stroke victims in our care. The option to modify the chair’s width, depth and height - as well as the ability to change the control sides will allow us to reach so many different individuals. We are truly grateful for this generous donation. Thank you’.”
