Representatives of the South East Pembrokeshire Community Health Network recently met with the Health Board once again to discuss local health provision following the HB commissioned pilot walk in service for minor ailments and minor injuries staged over the Easter period (writes Mansel Thomas).

At the meeting, various options were discussed and the HB noted all points of view.

After a long period of discussion stretching back over the years, it may well be that at last there is some progress and that recommendations for change could be made at the next Health Board meeting in July.

Until then, it is essential that the community keeps up pressure on the Health Board and our political representatives, especially the Assembly Member, Mrs. Angela Burns, stressing the unique nature of our community within the Hywel Dda HB area, with a massive summer population growth and fluctuating numbers throughout the year; a depleted service at the local GP surgery and a growing retirement population.

Nothing is yet decided and the Board’s decision will be final. There is no doubt that the health service nationally and locally is under a financial strain, but it is also true that there is need in our community for an effective provision that meets our particular requirements and provides an equitable service that does not exist at present.
