A Tenby county councillor has blasted the county's health service this week and said that people in the area have been lied to for 25 years. Speaking ahead of Tuesday night's meeting of Tenby Town Council, Clr. Michael Williams told members that the issues surrounding the recent closure of the Minor Injuries Unit at the the town's Cottage Hospital, were just the tip of the iceberg. "We've been lied to by the local health service for 25 years. We were given a fully functional cottage hospital that was designed to fail," he remarked. "I visited Romania last year and there was a GP in of the poorest countries waiting to see me at no cost, whereas last week there were around 20 people standing outside Tenby surgery in the rain queuing to see a doctor. I have very serious concerns about the health service," added Clr. Williams. A resident of the town told the Observer yesterday (Thursday) morning that he had just come from the surgery and the situation appeared to be getting worse. "There were a number of people waiting to see someone and it appears that they are down to three GPs at the surgery. I couldn't see my own doctor and gave my appointment up to another person who urgently needed to see someone. It is very worrying for Tenby," they explained.
