Sir,
News that the Royal Mail has doubled its profits over the last six months whilst over 1,500 post offices are to be shut down will bewilder readers affected by these closures.
Royal Mail's round of closures was based on economic viability, difficult to swallow when the company has just posted a £177 million profit.
A third of Post Offices in Wales have now been closed.
The Countryside Alliance has campaigned hard for the thousands of threatened branches, including those in Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire.
A lack of economic viability should never have been the main reason for closures; Post Offices often form the heart of their communities and many isolated and elderly people will be stranded without them.
Whilst we all understand that Royal Mail needs to make a profit, it should perhaps consider that Post Offices are also about people and communities.
