Forecasts of unsettled weather did not deter families from the Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot based charity PIP from visiting the Dinosaur Park, near Tenby, on Sunday, August 19.

Members of the group, whose initials stand for Parents in Partnership, all have children with disabilities or special needs, whose demands make their lives a little more difficult or complicated than average.

The valuable work done by the group, offering support and information for parents and carers, a befriending service and Christmas and summer play-schemes for the children and their siblings, requires constant funding.

A summer ball was recently organised to raise money and when Dinosaur Park owners Simon and Amanda Meyrick were approached for raffle prizes, they decided that they would also like to offer the families a day's treat at the park.

The excited youngsters were fascinated to encounter life-size dinosaurs, roaring in the woods, and took great pleasure in joining in the entertainment programme in the amphiteathre.

They rose to the challenge of the indoor and outdoor adventure playgrounds and some were brave enough to tackle the Giant Astra Slide.

Trip organiser Catherine Hinder and park public relations representative Jenni McIntosh were delighted with the success of the visit, which provided a fun-filled day for the children and offered them some valuable new experiences. The fact that the sun shone after all was an added bonus!
