Last weekend John Tipton, a well-known and long-standing member of the Tenby community, celebrated his 100th birthday with three generations of his family.
Born in Penally in 1917, John attended school in Tenby before reading Law at University College London.
His career began as an RAF navigator in World War Two where he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Bar.
Post-war he remained in the RAF rising to the rank of Wing Commander with postings in New Zealand, France and the UK.
From the mid 1960s he enjoyed a second distinguished career in the Civil Service.
In 1983 John and his late wife Margaret retired to Tenby where he became Honorary Curator at Tenby Museum for twelve years. Latterly John has travelled the world visiting friends and family.
Over the past weekend John was joined by many Tenby friends as well as his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who arrived from England, Australia, Germany, Singapore and the USA (via Internet).
On the Saturday members of the London Pembrokeshire Society also visited to raise a glass of champagne in his honour.
