After it emerged last week that the future of Tenby's Augustus Place Community Centre could be under threat, leaflets are to be distributed to try to encourage organisations and people to make use of the building.

With running costs considerably outweighing income, the town council revealed that they may be forced to close the centre's doors for good, unless more people start hiring the building.

At Tuesday night's meeting of the council, Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, showed her colleagues the leaflet that displayed the words 'Use it or lose it' which would be circulated.

"It would be useful to hand out the leaflets to schools and the community in general, where they could be displayed on notice boards around the town to try and encourage people to use the Augustus Place Centre for parties and the like," she said.

The hall is available most days of the week and is ideally suited for meetings of up to 90 people, rehearsals, children's parties and similar activities. It has its own kitchen facilities and the foldaway tables and chairs mean it can be set up in virtually endless configurations.

Hire times are mornings, afternoons and early evenings (until 9 pm) and cost £20 per four hours.

Anyone interested in hiring the hall can contact the town council on 01834 842730, Monday to Friday, between 9 am and 5 pm.
