You only have to say 'let's have a party' at Carew Youth Club and a mass of ideas, volunteers and donations all seem to appear (writes J.H.). No it is not magic, it is thanks to our loyal band of leaders and supporters. So a Guy Fawkes party was planned for last Friday.

It comes to something when you have so much going on that you struggle to get it all in in the two hours, but it pretty much came to that.

The members enjoyed 'wrapping mummies'. Then each team made a Guy by stuffing old clothes and tights, using hand-decorated masks for faces. There were some fine efforts, but I think they had just as much fun ripping them apart afterwards.

In between games, there was a word search, tuck shop and a mass of food to devour. The evening finished with good old bobbing apples - there were some very wet children leaving club (sorry mums and dads!). John Brock failed to bob a single apple, something about his bad knees and being 85 - we accepted his excuse on this occasion!

We are also extremely grateful to Mairwen Head, who donated the most amazing firework cake. Mai used to be a member of the club, while her mum Gwen is a long-serving club leader. Gwen is very much hands-on, providing lots of craft sessions, as well as taking on the mammoth task of collecting the pantomime money every year (no mean feat when we have 100 tickets to sell - so get your booking forms and money in guys and gals!). A huge thank you to the Head family for all their help and support.

You can see more of Mai's work on her Facebook group, Mai iced cakes. It is well worth a look, so please check it out - she is a very talented young lady (clearly following her mum!).

So all in all, once again a good night was had by all at club.

If you would like to join Carew Youth Club you have to be eight years or over, so why not pop along on a Friday night to see what we get up to. Check out the Observer each week to see what we are doing. We also welcome you to our Sunday School which meets at 11 am every week - why not call in, we are a friendly bunch - honest!
