The Griffons have recently performed two concerts in St. Mary's Church, Tenby. The first was in aid of the Red Cross and the choir, with Judy Davies in charge, sang a varied programme, which included a first performance of 'A Place in the Choir', which was fast, furious and funny. The soloist for the evening was Dr. John Harrison, director of music at St. Mary's. His recital fully demonstrated the versatility of the organ, and was very well-received by the audience. The second concert on July 9 was enjoyed by a large audience. Again the programme included numbers to suit all tastes. Judy Davies, with accompanist Rob Waygood, arranged a programme that included Welsh pieces, songs from musical theatre and sacred music. The soloist was choir member Melanie Walker, whose polished performance on the marimba was rewarded with enthusiastic applause. Melanie had chosen pieces which included one by Handel, East European folk music, a Brazilian samba and a very dashing czardas. The Griffons' next concert will again be at St. Mary's, Tenby, on July 30. It is in support of Ty Hafan.
