The Greenhill School's Music Department will be holding its Easter Concert in the Main Hall at the school on Monday, March 25. Ticket prices are £6, £5 (£4 for concessions) and £2, according to the seating area, and are sold at the door on the night of the concert.
This year's Easter performance promises to be full of musical delights guaranteed to have you tapping your feet and singing along to some old favourites such as Duke Ellington, Pink Panter and Stevie Wonder. The ensembles playing include the Orchestra, Wind Band, Jazz Band and Symphony Orchestra, together with a choral and drama ensemble. Also appearing for the first time is a stunningly smart new jazz band known as Tuxedo Funktion, made up of Greenhill pupils all studying music at the school and whose music will be sure to put a spring in your step if not have you dancing in the aisles!
All proceeds from the concert will help towards the funding of this year's auditions for the Music For Youth competition and the Urdd Eisteddfod.
Various Greenhill ensembles have competed in the National Festival of Music for Youth since 1988 with great success. This year, Greenhill Music Department is entering two ensembles for the competition, the orchestra and the wind band, and if successful they will be travelling to Birmingham Symphony Hall in July to compete against many other schools from around the whole of Great Britain.
This year's auditions take place the day after the Easter concert, so this is an excellent opportunity to hear the audition pieces currently being rehearsed for the competition. On the same day, the Wind Band are also auditioning for a place in the National Urdd Eisteddfod which is taking place in Crymych this year on May 31.
All in all, a busy and exciting time for these committed musicians, their teachers and their dedicated conductor Mr. Paul Rapi, head of performing arts at Greenhill School, who all give their time freely each week to ensure the reputation of Greenhill Music Department continues.
Please come along and hear for yourselves the spectacular variety of music, drama and choral pieces performed by these very talented musicians and pupils at the Easter Concert. A warm welcome awaits everyone, doors open at 7 pm and the concert begins at 7.30 pm. Refreshments will be available for a small charge during the interval.
