Tenby councillors' long running saga to get the go-ahead to redevelop one of the town's children's play parks could finally be given the green light.

Over the past six years, councillors have become increasingly frustrated with their attempts to redevelop a toddler park at the Jubilee Play Area, with Pembrokeshire County Council recently suggesting that an area at Battery Gardens could be better suited to a development as an alternative option, against the wishes of the town council.

However, after a recent meeting at County Hall, where Clr. Mike Evans asked if there was any logical reason why the county council would not support a scheme to enhance a play area at the Jubilee, seeing as the town council were willing to maintain the existing area and seek a partner to bring in play equipment for children, it seems the town council's original plans could be approved.

Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown told her colleagues on Tuesday night that she, along with the town clerk, Mr. Andrew Davies, had met with county council's cabinet member for the environment, Clr. Ken Rowlands, to discuss the matter.

"It was a brilliant meeting, I'm happy to say, and it looks like we may finally get the green light for the project, as our proposals will be put to county council's cabinet very soon," explained Clr. Mrs. Brown.

The town clerk said that the only terms put on the application would be that should a further development opportunity nearby come to the county council in future, that the town council would have to fund the removal of the play equipment themselves.

However, he pointed out that as the area was listed in the recently drawn up LDP of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority until 2021 and also designated as open green/public space in the JUDP, it would be a long time before this could arise.

Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, offered her congratulations to all involved on their hard work in getting the scheme off the ground.
